The procedure is simple.
It begins with a short preparation to cover the lips and gums, leaving only the teeth exposed. The procedure requires that all soft tissue in and around the mouth be protected.
The dentist is required to monitor the procedure to insure any exposed skin or tissue is isolated and protected.
Then the dentist applies the whitening gel used together with a specially designed light.
During the procedure, the gel is changed twice, each time activating for twenty minutes.
A five-minute Fluoride treatment completes the procedure.

The gel's active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide.

As the Hydrogen Peroxide is broken down, Oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching coloured substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged.
The light aids in activating the Hydrogen Peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth.

Post whitening care instructions:
After the tooth whitening procedure, dark staining substances such as coffee or tea, mustard or ketchup, cola, red wine, berry, soy sauce, red sauces should be avoided for one week.
To maintain the result, one should avoid staining related habits, should practise good oral hygiene including thorough tooth brushing, flossing and tongue cleaning.
